We’ve moved to Slack! Come join us there
so far so interesting, but confused how to get material in
For example, webpages or web content?
Hello! Our web capture isnt live yet, but we are hoping to release the first version in the next two weeks. You can drag and drop pdfs into tables and we have an alpha of our Readwise integration live, available through Project Settings. Otherwise we’ve been copy/pasting text and webcontent for now into pages and atomising from there.
What are you looking to capture? We’ll make sure its on the roadmap
Thanks!
I tend to capture academic articles and paraphrase to use when writing up papers- so the idea of atoms is really helpful.
I worry that putting lots of work into notes on this site may be lost- but so far so good.
Also, what happens if you use the app, but you are offline?
Currently most of my notes are in obsidian but migrating into protolyst on an experimental basis
What are modules?
Hi Joe,
I’m looking forward to showing you the automated content extraction from web pages this week. I’ll be in touch to give you early bird access.
Regarding offline support, the answer is a little complex:
If you’re writing in a note and go offline, your content will resync with our servers as soon as you reconnect, as long as you keep the note you are working on open.
If you aren’t looking to write notes and instead you want to just add notes, use tables, atoms or other features, you can do so freely and your content will resync as long as you keep the app open in that tab.
However, for the time being, I’d recommend avoiding pushing this to it’s limits as it’s relatively experimental. instead, we are working on more robust offline capabilities and a dedicated ‘offline’ mode, though this will be limited to one tab.
Regarding Modules:
Modules are ‘published’ Protolyst content that you will be able to work through and explore.
Uniquely, modules give the creator the ability to set some content as ‘read only’, but keep other content as interactive.
At the moment, Modules are only in use by our enterprise customers, but in the not too distant future, we envision a public marketplace for you to browse templates and workflows, which can directly export into your private workspace.
Do keep the questions and feedback coming, it’s great to have you on board.
Ric
@ric_protolyst that is indeed exciting and thank you for the response re notes! So far am really pleased with how this is working
@ric_protolyst Hi there- saw on twitter that web nodes now in pre release alpha- possible to have a go?
@joebtay73
The web nodes alpha should be up and running for you!
When you add URLs into the first column of your table and then open up that row as a page you should be able to extract atoms from it within Protolyst – please let us know how you get on and any bugs we can work on fixing
@joebtay73 As Maddy said, do feel free to start integrating ‘Web Nodes’ into your workflows and let me know any feedback. It’s still lacking some functionality such as Atom highlighting, but the core extraction and capture process is live and ready.
It works well at the moment with articles on the web, but I’d be interested to know what works and doesn’t work for you. Just let me know and it will help inform development over the coming weeks 🙂
